Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Officer

Welcome to Your Career in Law Enforcement.  Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Officers protect the people and assets of the Kansas City Fed. They control access to the building; operate security consoles; rotate through security posts; patrol the property; and respond to security or medical emergency calls, among other duties. Positions are available in Kansas City and Denver.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, as is at least one year of armed law enforcement, military, corrections or security experience.

Other requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 21 years of age;
  • Have a valid driver's license;
  • Possess good interpersonal and customer service skills;
  • Have basic computer skills, including e-mail and Word;
  • Complete successfully a pre-employment psychological examination;
  • Complete successfully the Federal law enforcement legal training;
  • Complete successfully the “fit-for-duty” physical and drug testing;
  • Complete successfully handgun training;
  • Complete successfully semi-automatic heart defibrillator, First-Aid and CPR training;
  • Maintain physical fitness to effectively respond to incidents;
  • Be available to work weekends, holidays and overtime.

Training

Job candidates enroll in eight weeks of on-site training that covers report writing, equipment use, self-defense and more. Upon successful competition, candidates are sworn in as Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Officers.

Hours

During initial training, the typical schedule is 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. Once a shift is assigned, the officer completes a 30-day on-the-job training program. Officers typically work a fixed shift, which may include weekends.
